Haglund’s deformity
Haglund’s deformity (also Haglund’s exostosis) is a bony prominence on the upper rear edge of the heel bone – a form of exostosis. It lies directly next to the insertion of the Achilles tendon.
Complaints
- painful redness and swelling at the back of the heel
- bursitis caused by friction
- calluses and pressure points on the heel
- complaints mainly in shoes with a hard heel counter
What helps?
Shoes with a soft or open heel, a slight heel raise and pads that relieve the edge. For persistent complaints an orthopaedic specialist will advise. We gently remove calluses and pressure points and relieve the heel with pads. See also: achillodynia, pressure relief.
