Orthosis
An orthosis is a medical aid used to relieve, stabilise or correct joints, muscles or bones. It can be made of various materials (e.g. plastic, silicone, metal) and is individually fitted. In podiatry we mainly make silicone orthoses for the toes.
Foot and toe orthoses
- correction or support of toe deformities (e.g. hallux valgus, hammer toes, claw toes)
- pressure relief for corns and calluses
- prevention of problems with diabetic foot syndrome
Other areas of use
- knee and ankle orthoses – stabilisation after injuries
- back orthoses – posture correction
- hand and finger orthoses – support and protection
Materials
- silicone and gel: soft and flexible – ideal for toe separators and protectors
- plastic and carbon: stable and light for joint splints
- neoprene and textiles: comfortable and breathable
Fitting and use
An orthosis must fit perfectly to avoid new pressure points. Our silicone orthoses are moulded directly on your foot, are washable and last a long time with good care.
